Chato Santana, also known as El Diablo, is a fictional character and supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He was created by writer Mike W. Barr and artist Jim Aparo, first appearing in "Batman" #363 (June 1987).
A street thug who ran with the Southside Serpents gang on Gotham City's south side before his transformation into an inhuman demonic creature, Chato Santana possesses superhuman strength, endurance and reflexes; he can also generate fire from his hands. Initially acting as an enforcer for the gang leader Tobias Whale—a former Blackglove member left disfigured after being horrifically burned—El Diablo eventually breaks free of Whale's control and becomes a vigilante himself.
